WORK is starting on the £500,000 revamp of a Chester-le-Street pub.
Tavistock Leisure, which owns hotels, bars and restaurants across the region, has bought the Lambton Worm in North Road.
It will be renamed the Lambton Worm Sonnet 43 Brew Pub and Restaurant, featuring real ales created by Tavistock’s own Sonnet 43 brewery in Coxhoe.
The pub will employ 30 people and is due to re-open in March.
The Lambton Worm will be the first of four Sonnet 43 Brew Pubs and Restaurants to open.
Jonathan Graham, director of Tavistock Leisure, said: "We feel this a really exciting concept and will give both local people and visitors from further away the chance to sample real hearty food and real ales with a distinct North East flavour."
