POLICE are appealing for help after trail bikes were stolen.

It happened between 2pm on Saturday ( February 2) and 1pm on Sunday (February 3) when three motorbikes were taken from a secure unit at Felling MOT Centre in Penshaw Way, Birtley.

The machines are a silver and blue Sherco 250cc , a blue Fantic 250cc, and a red Gas Gas trial bike, worth more than £2,000.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft or anyone with information to contact them.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Hamilton said: "I'd appeal for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, or who knows who is responsible for the theft to get in touch.

"I'd also ask anyone who sees the stolen bikes or is offered them for sale to contact us as soon as possible."
