New health centre is opened at Pelton

A VILLAGE’s £4.5m health centre and library has been officially opened.

The long-planned Lavender Centre at Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, was completed at Christmas and was given its official launch today, Friday March 8.

It was built on the site of the village’s former junior and infant school by NHS County Durham and Darlington, Pelton and Fellrose Medical Group and Durham County Council.

It has replaced Pelton’s old library, which was recently knocked down along with an old health centre.

As well as offering GP services, the medical centre will provide a local base for services including health visitors, midwifery, district nursing, physiotherapy, counselling, phlebotomy, podiatry and chronic disease management.
