Josef flies the flag for geen school

PARALYMPIC hero Josef Craig helped youngsters fly the flag for green issues.

The 16-year-old 400m freestyle swimming gold medallist from South Tyneside was the pupils’ choice for celebrating their school’s first Eco-Schools Green Flag award.

St Benet’s RCVA Primary School, Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham has worked to be more environmentally friendly for three years.

Headteacher Damian Groark said: “Obtaining the Green Flag is something that the whole school and its surrounding community can be proud of.

“Each pupil will be able to take away some degree of satisfaction in the knowledge that their actions have significantly altered their local environment.

“It has been a fantastic initiative for all involved, however it is by no means over as the greater challenge is to maintain what we have achieved so far and look towards ways of improving even further.”
