Cash raised for swans

North East Swan Rescue, the group that looks after the swans on the River Wear at Chester-le-Street’s Riverside Park, has been given £30 by the town’s North End Residents Association, who raised the money with a raffle at a recent meeting.

It would have been better to have given the £30 to a deserving charity such as a local hospice. The swans are wild animals and can look after themselves. They get fed by the public in any case.
