FLOWER arranging enthusiasts in Chester-le-Street hope to brighten up people’s day by leaving little bouquets in public places.
Members of Cestrian Flower Club will be among the groups across the country taking part in National Flower Arranging Day on Friday, May 1, which will see more than 60,000 bouquets left for someone to find and enjoy.
The Lonely Bouquet initiative is backed by the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS).
The idea is to encourage interest in flowers by leaving a small bunch for a stranger to pick up and take home and enjoy.
Jeanette Ray, chairman of Cestrian Flower Club, which belongs to NAFAS, said members will also make bouquets to place at the town’s railway station, the library, the parish centre, the surgery at Pelton and in the Middle Chare and Bridge End surgeries in the town centre ahead of the Lonely Bouquet event.
