FOUR friends are taking part in a colourful tribute to a beloved father who died in a hospice.

Michelle Brown, Donna Zepernick, Tegan Carter and Angela Peake have signed up to take part in next month’s Colourama event to raise money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.

The self-style Chester-le-Street Colourama Chicks will take part in the five-kilometre sponsored walk around Aykley Heads on June 6, having paint thrown over them every kilometre until they end in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Group leader Donna Zepernick said: “Michelle is one of my best friends and her dad Carlton spent his last couple of days and passed away at St Cuthbert’s Hospice in November 2013. Then Michelle lost her mam in May, 2014. It's been a difficult and sad time lately.

“I think Colourama is a brilliant idea and would be a great way to bring some happiness and fun to celebrate the memory of Carlton and his wife Jean whilst raising awareness and funds for the hospice.

“I signed up and shared the idea with Michelle and the others who were thrilled with it."

More than 700 people have already signed up for the event, pledging to raise £16,000 for the cause.

Michelle Brown said: “I would like to thank the hospice for all the support and kindness they showed us at such a sad and emotional time.

“My dad is dearly missed by us so much, leaving a huge gap that is often unbearable.

“Without the help of the hospice, I don't know how we would have coped”.

Her daughter Tegan added; “I would also like to thank the hospice for looking after my granddad in his last few days.”

Donna added: “I think it will be a brilliant day with lots of laughter and good memories shared, with probably a few tears on the way: something to remember and be proud of.”
