POLICE are appealing for information after a thief snatched money from behind the counter of a stall in a busy mixed-use shopping mall

The man believed to be responsible was said to have entered the Market Hall centre, on Front Street, Chester-le-Street, at about 11am, on Friday May 8.

He made his way to a stall within the mall which sells collectable items.

He then made off, leaving the centre and running outside, heading in the direction of the Black Horse pub.

Police said the suspect is aged approximately 30 and is about 5ft 9ins, of slim build with sandy coloured short hair.

He was wearing a blue shirt and a waist-length sandy jacket at the time of the crime.

Anyone who saw this man is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
