Designs on business

AN IT STUDENT working on a website project was given the chance to put his ideas into practice.

Jamie Burnip, 19, from Chester-le Street, a student at Gateshead College has been developing the wbsite with Peter and Tracey Briggs, who run the Ainsley Guest House, in South Shields.

The project, set up by the college and Tourism Tyne and Wear, is part of a foundation degree in digital applications development.

The initiative was launched last year where six students were paired with local tourism businesses to design new websites, and was extended this year to develop five of the original sites.

Jamie said the experience had been fantastic.

He added: “I’ve really enjoyed working on the project and, not only have I been able to put what I’ve learned about website development into practice, I’ve also built up real life experience that I hope I can build on and will help me get a job when I finish the course.”

Tracy Briggs, said; “Jamie has worked brilliantly and the project has been really great for us as it’s a free opportunity to renew an important area of the business.

We’ve really enjoyed the process and know of lots of other small businesses who are keen to get involved next year.”
