A MAN was taken to hospital with head injuries after his car collided with a double-decker bus this morning (Tuesday, April 1).

A police spokesman said a silver Peugeot 205 collided with a bus from Go North East, outside the Royal Mail depot on the A691, between Leadgate and Iveston, near Consett, County Durham, at about 8.40am.

He said: “The car driver was extricated from his vehicle by firefighters and transported to the University Hospital of North Durham by ambulance with minor head injuries.

“The driver of the bus and passengers were unhurt.”

The road was closed and diversions put in place until it was re-opened at 10.15am.

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “The driver of the car was released by firefighters using cutting equipment and placed on a longboard.

“He had suspected back and neck injuries and minor lacerations, probably caused by shattered glass.

“The man was given medical attention at the scene by paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries were not life-threatening.”
