ARTWORK inspired by the childhood of a man who grew up when Consett was hive of industrial activity is on show in the town.
The exhibition by Phil Bartle, entitled Red Dust, is on display at Consett Library and features paintings depicting his memories of life when the steelworks dominated the town.
The 54-year-old grew up in the shadow of the steelworks during the 60s and 70s and his work is a colourful illustration of everyday life.
The father-of-two has captured a range of aspects of the period, including going to work, sitting in a cafe and watching the Steelmen play football on a Saturday afternoon.
Mr Bartle, of The Avenue, said: “I have had a great reaction so far. It seems it has stirred a lot of memories and there have been lots of good comments, some by phone call, email or when I've called in and quite a few sales too.”
Red Dust is on show until Saturday and for sale with prints costing £25-45 and originals priced at £150-£250.
