CHRISTMAS baubles could help residents point the way ahead during a fun day to be held later this month.

Seasonal decorations with a difference will be hung on trees during a Christmas in Consett day which will allow residents to outline the priorities they want to see tackled next year.

Residents have the chance to pick three from a top ten list of priorities, such as young people’s activities, town centre regeneration or culture and arts, each represented by a different coloured bauble.

The trees will be the backdrop to a family fun day on Middle Street, on Saturday, November 22, organised by the Derwent Valley Partnership.

Corinne Walton, Derwent Valley Partnership AAP co-ordinator, said: “Asking residents to vote for their priorities using coloured baubles will quickly show the most dominant colours on the trees and what people want us to do. It is a bit of festive fun with a serious message.

“There is a lot happening on the day so we would like as many as people to come along, enjoy the fun and take part in the festive vote.”

The “Christmas in Consett” day runs from 10am to 6pm and includes live music, dance, theatre and comedy as well face painting, circus skills, crafts and gifts, while Santa will be in his grotto in the Derwent Centre.

Christmas lights will be switched on between 5.30pm and 6pm with carol singing beforehand.
