STAFF at a north Durham supermarket have raised over £1,000 for charity.
Asda at Stanley held a range of events, including a hamper raffle, in memory of former colleague, Anne Black, who suffered from cancer.
Her work mates raised the money in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support last month.
The money, which was topped up with donations, has now been handed over to the charity.
Acting community colleague Ann Alison said: “The reason we did this was we lost a colleague and her family were greatly helped by Macmillan.”
Michelle Muir, Macmillan fundraising manager, said the money will help sufferers and their families in the North-East.
She said: “When you have cancer, you don’t just worry about what will happen to your body, you worry about what will happen to your life.
“Whether it is concerns about who you can talk to, planning for the extra costs or what to do about work, at Macmillan we understand how a cancer diagnosis can take over everything.
“That’s why we’re here. We provide support that helps people take back control of their lives.
“But right now, we can’t reach everyone who needs us. We need help to make sure that people affected by cancer get the support they need to face the toughest fight of their life. No-one should face cancer alone, and with support no-one will.”
