POLICE WARNING: Young people in Darlington have been warned by police that officers are on the look-out for acts of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour during the school holidays. During the last holiday period a number of incidents where ball bearings were fired at properties in the Northgate area of town were reported. A police spokesman said: “The number of incidents was small, and no-one was hurt, but this kind of activity carries with it a risk of injuring someone.” Anyone who witnesses an incident or has information is asked to contact Darlington Police on the non-emergency 101 number.

VISUAL AUDIT: Police officers covering the Lingfield area of Darlington were joined by John Williams, from Darlington Borough Council’s StreetScene team to carry out a visual audit of the streets. No major issues were reported, although litter and a damaged grass verge were noted. Anyone who would like to raise small community issues to the police or the council is encouraged to attend their local police and communities together meeting (Pact), which are held each month. OPEN DAY: The Tees Cottage Pumping Station, on Coniscliffe Road, Darlington, will open its doors to the public on Sunday, April 20, between 11am and 5pm. The event is a chance to see the 1902 Lancashire Boilers, a 1904 steam powered Beam Engine and 1914 Gas powered engine, all in operation and still pumping water from the River Tees. An entry fee applies. Refreshments are available.
