A PARALYMPIAN will visit Darlington to highlight the achievements of sporty school children tomorrow (Thursday, July 17).

Gold medallist Tim Prendergast will present awards at the Longfield Academy of Sport, which is holding its annual Sports Presentation Evening.

The visually-impaired athlete – who represented New Zealand in four Paralympic Games and won gold at the 2004 Athens Paralympics – will join Darlington FC manager Martin Gray in handing out trophies and awards to pupils.

Awards for table tennis will be presented by Guilio Pontone and Wilf Gilbert from the Darlington Table Tennis Club.

Student and gymnast Courtney Burton – who is ranked third in the country - will give a demonstration while fellow pupil Megan Boddy will display dance skills that have netted her more than 200 trophies.

Awards will be given for categories including sporting excellence, leadership and outstanding achievement.

The event will take place from 6.45pm at Darlington’s Dolphin Centre.
