THERE was no sign of Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood, but children at a farm-based day nursery near Darlington have been enjoying their very own version of the Great British Bake Off.
Youngsters at High Bank Day Nursery, in Stapleton, have spent the week baking cakes as part of a fundraising event for TFM Radio’s Cash for Kids ‘Big Bake Day’, which takes place on Friday (September 12).
At the end of each day, when their parents came to pick them up, the entrepreneurial children have invited their mums and dads to buy the cakes they have made, which include fairy cakes, crispy cakes and banana cakes.
Jennifer Thompson, manager of High Bank, said: “The children have really enjoyed baking and they particularly like selling them to their parents and members of staff at the end of each day.
“We have run out of cakes to sell each day so it’s fantastic that our Big Bake Week has been so well supported.
“I think we definitely have some future contestants on The Great British Bake Off on our hands.”
The fundraising campaign helps local sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
