A MUSIC venue aiming to cater for all musical tastes been set up by a Darlington businesswoman.

Sass, in Duke Street, was opened last month by former 'mother of the bride' outfit specialist Kate Saint.

She said: “There is a lot of local talent which needs to be showcased.

"Although there are other venues in Darlington, some of these are out of town.

"Sass is an ideal place to come for some entertainment and perhaps move on for a meal in one of the many central restaurants."

Diverse live performances take place every weekend and a café and bar operate on a daily basis for coffee, drinks and light snacks.

Bosses hope to serve hot food in the future.

Miss Saint decided to change career as she felt the internet was ruining the high street.

She said outfits retailing at about £1,500 can be copied, with the online items costing just a fraction of the genuine article.

Oli Patto is performing at Sass on Friday (September 12), with Bri Alderson's punk rock charity fundraiser on Saturday, from 1pm, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
