A DRUNKEN woman who lashed out at police officers after damaging the window of a Darlington home has been sentenced in court.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard today (Wednesday, September 24) that 30-year-old Siobhan Matthews became abusive towards her friend and her friend’s child after her mobile phone went missing in the grounds of a house in Humber Place on August 15.

The phone was retrieved, but an irate Matthews began throwing objects at the house from the garden, prosecutor Brian Payne told the court.

She damaged a large window and the police were called.

Mr Payne said officers found Matthews “sitting slumped” in the garden and when they approached she verbally abused them and threatened to bite one of them.

During the struggle as the officers tried to get Matthews into a police vehicle, she dug her fingernails into their arms and kicked one in the leg and another in the groin.

In court, Matthews, of Kirkstall Crescent, Darlington, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and two counts of assaulting a constable.

Mitigating, the court heard that Matthews had a clean record up until last year and District Judge Martin Walker said she had a “significant problem” with alcohol.

He ordered her to pay £75 compensation for the window, £50 to each of the two officers and imposed a 12-month community order with supervision and alcohol rehabilitation sessions.
