MORE than £500 has been raised for charity after a team of solicitors endured a punishing 10k urban adventure course.

The team, from Hewitts Solicitors, in Darlington, entered the River Rat Race in Stockton, to raise funds for the Darlington and County Durham Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (RSACC).

Led by practice partner Helen Simmons, the team fought their way through the demanding annual event, which involves kayaking down the River Tees, fighting through assault courses, running across the Infinity Bridge, and taking on the white water rapids at the Tees Barrage without a canoe; before finally walking the plank off the replica HMS Endeavour.

After the event, Ms Simmons, who is also chairwoman of the charity, sang the praises of the team.

She said: "The staff at Hewitts really put themselves through their paces.

“We are really proud of the team and delighted they have raised money for such an important charity.”

A senior member of the charity thanked the fundraisers for their efforts.

Deborah Barker, chief executive of RSACC, said: “We are grateful to the employees of Hewitts for raising money for our charity.”

The centre provides free and confidential help for victims of rape, sexual and domestic abuse.
