PEOPLE power will determine which projects in the Spennymoor area get a slice of a £40,000 grants pot.

Spennymoor Area Action Partnership (AAP) will hold a public vote after groups and organisations applied for funding towards schemes that support its priorities of employment and jobs, children and young people or town centre regeneration.

On Saturday, November 8 the AAP will hold a voting event at Spennymoor Leisure Centre to select which of the 24 short-listed projects receive grants of between £500 and £5,000.

A full list of the projects bidding for support can be found on gospenny.com, by calling 03000-261136 or emailing spennyaap@durham.gov.uk

They include nature projects, employability schemes, performing arts groups, tuition for young brass band musicians, the diamond jubilee gala in Spennymoor and improved facilities at a community centre.

Boxing, netball, cricket, football and taekwondo clubs have applied for money towards sports equipment.

Michael Wilkes, Spennymoor AAP co-ordinator, said: “We would like to thank all those groups and organisations who have applied for the grants.

“It is now up to local people to say which projects they want to see delivered in their community.”

The It’s Up 2 U event will also give residents a chance to have their say on what Spennymoor AAP’s priorities should be for the 2015/16 financial year.
