A SUSPECTED joyrider was arrested after an early-hours police chase resulted in a car crashing and landing on its roof.
The incident happened at about 3.30am on Sunday (October 19) after a green Vauxhall Corsa was spotted by police in Darlington, whose suspicions about the way it was being given caused them to give chase.
A Darlington police spokesman said the driver of the Corsa swerved to avoid a road sign in Parkside, close to the 'skinny bridge'.
Shortly afterwards, a 26-year-old man from the Skerne Park area of the town, was arrested after being located by officers on foot.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking, as well as other driving offences including driving without insurance.
He was interviewed and released on bail until mid-November.
A second man arrested were released with no further action to be taken, after it turned out he was not connected to this incident.
Anyone who was on the roads in that area in the early hours of Sunday and may have seen the car being driven at any point is asked to contact the prisoner handling team at Darlington police station, on 101.
