PLANS have been submitted to turn a vacant pub into an apartment block for older people.
Social housing provider livin is seeking permission to build eight two-bedroom apartments at the Oak Tree pub site in Newton Aycliffe.
The Neville Parade establishment closed earlier this year and the disused building has since been plagued by anti-social behaviour.
Livin hopes to demolish the pub and redevelop the site into flats for people aged over 55.
The flats will be divided into two two-storey blocks, with a communal garden to provide an outdoor space for residents to relax and socialise.
In a document, submitted with the application to Durham County Council, livin states: “The development will support the community by providing the supply of housing to meet the needs of present and future generations.
“The scheme will create a high quality built environment, with accessible local services that reflect the community’s needs and support its health, social and cultural well-being.”
The public can comment on the application until Monday, November 3, at durham.gov.uk
