ARTISTIC creations were exhibited at two events in Ferryhill to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.

An annual art and photography exhibition, held at Ferryhill Town Hall in August, included a poppy themed competition this year to mark the outbreak of the Great War.

Entries were also displayed at a Time Bandit event held at Broom Cottages Primary School last month (September), where they were judged.

Ferryhill Town Mayor Councillor Pauline Crathorne presented the winners with gift vouchers and certificates.

She said: “The poppy art and photography exhibition proved to be a popular and successful event and has once again shown what a tremendous amount of talented people we have in Ferryhill.”

The winners were:

Under 12s art at Dean Bank Primary School: 1. Ella-May Connolly, 2. Kasey Newton; Under 12s art at Broom Cottages Primary School: 1. Jessica Burtenshaw, 2. Samuel Barber; Over 18s art: Gillian Barnes; Over 18s photography: Eddie Serrell.
