A SPENNYMOOR school has received a cash boost to help create a new multi-skills sports area.

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has donated £500 to St Charles RC Voluntary Aided Primary School to pay for resurfacing work of the outdoor area already in place.

The new facilities will be available to pupils at the school and surrounding schools.

Headteacher Judith Reeves said: “As a result of bad weather, the school field can become waterlogged and we therefore need to develop a new outdoor area to provide sporting opportunities for all seasons.

“Without support from the local community however, it would have been a real struggle.

“Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s generous donation, we’re delighted to be able to start the resurfacing works to present a brand new playground and sports area, which we hope the local school community will benefit from.”

Karl Morton, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey North East, said: “St Charles RC Voluntary Aided Primary School is a fantastic school so close to where we are building, so as soon as we found out about the outdoor project we just had to get involved.

“We’re delighted to contribute to the Spennymoor community and hope the children at St Charles and other local schools will enjoy the new multi-skills sports area.”
