SADDLE sore charity cyclists raised £1,000 for an air ambulance by pedalling 110-miles from Chilton to Whitby.

Scott Weldon, 24, formerly of Chilton, now near Brighton, Sussex, and Bryan Craig, 41, of Chilton, cycled from the town to North Yorkshire and back in about eight hours.

The brothers-in-law raised funds for the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS) with the ride and also a later leg wax at Chilton Working Men’s Club.

The men’s wives Cathy Weldon, 22, and Tina Craig, 25, held coffee mornings, cake sales and raffles to help towards reach the fundraising goal.

Mrs Weldon, said: “We did this in honour of Scott’s nan and granddad. GNAAS was their favourite charity and everyone has been so generous and supportive of the cause.

“Scott’s hairs have only just started to grow back and he got waxed in August. He was in quite a bit of pain but it was funny.”

GNAAS operates three air ambulances across the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “It has been brilliant to see the family’s progress and fundraising over the last few months.

“They have done an incredible job and put a lot of effort in to reaching their target.”
