POLICE in Spennymoor will take the PACT meetings that help them engage with residents on the road in a bid to reach more people.

The Spennymoor neighbourhood policing team will hold a series of mobile police and community together meetings across their patch later this week.

A community safety vehicle will visit five different areas so residents of those neighbourhoods find it easier to share any concerns they have and seek security advice.

On Wednesday, November 19 it will be at St David’s Community Centre, Tudhoe, from 2pm to 4pm; and Walkworth Lane junction with Scargill Drive, from 5pm to 7pm.

On Thursday, November 20 it will be in Stratton Street, 1pm to 2.30pm; Central Drive, in Middlestone Moor, 3pm to 5pm; and High Street, Byers Green, from 6pm to 7pm.

Sergeant Jon Curtis, of the Spennymoor beat team, said: “Through PACT we want to engage with our communities so people can tell us their concerns, it helps us focus on what is important to them and reassures them we are here and working alongside them.

“Sometimes people cannot make it to the meetings we hold in community venues so we hope to make it easier for people by going out to them, we want to hear from more people who might sometimes feel they miss out.”

The sessions will also include crime prevention advice, focusing on the Durham force’s Winter Nights campaign, and bike security marking through Operation Spoke.

Street wardens from Durham County Council will also attend and one of the issues they want to raise awareness of is fly tipping.
