THE Darlington Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society held its final show of the season in Bondgate Methodist Church hall on Saturday, November 8.

During 2014, the society has been celebrating 75 years of growing and showing in Darlington.

The recent show was a fitting final display of colour for the society with exhibitors traveling from across the North East bringing with them their prize blooms, the memorial hall was filled with flowers that wouldn’t have been out of place at any major national show.

Darlington mayor Gerald Lee and mayoress Ruth Lee attended the show and presented the trophy winners with their awards.

Among the winners were Dave Andrews, from Richmond, who won a series of trophies, and Audrey Simpson, from Durham, who won the trophy for the best exhibit in the members' section, among others.

Ron Nelson, of Darlington, won the T Wood cup and the Mona Alderson Memorial Trophy and Pat Brophy, of Darlington, won the Skilbeck cup.

Many of the trophies and cup won at this show have been in the society for many of the 75 years that the society has been running and many are closely to the history of the society and its past members.

Anyone interested in the activities of the society can call the society secretary Kelvin Vincent on 01325-3177770.
