A PRIMARY school can get started on creating a ‘spiritual garden’ thanks to a £1,000 donation from convenience store.

The Nisa store in Lascelles, Darlington, presented the money to St John’s Academy pupils at a fun day organised to coincide with the shop’s seventh anniversary today (Friday, November 21).

The amount was raised as part of Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally scheme, in which money from selected shop goods goes into fund for local charities and good causes.

The cheque presentation was the centrepiece of a family fun-day extravaganza at the store, which involved giveaways, goodie bags and a raffle for customers.

Trisha Trowbridge, area manager for Nisa, said: “We thought it would be a great way to support our community by throwing open our doors for a fun day, as well as supporting a fantastic cause which relies on donations such as this one.”

St John’s will now use the money to create a ‘spiritual garden’ for the pupils to relax in and enjoy quiet time.
