ANGELIC voices echoed down the aisle of a supermarket when youngsters serenaded shoppers with Christmas carols.

Children from Sedgefield Primary School performed a mixture of traditional carols and modern festive tunes at Sainsbury’s in the town on Saturday, December 6.

The youngsters raised £164 for Back the Track, Sedgefield Harriers’ campaign to create a synthetic running track, and Sedgefield Out of School Fun Club’s new building appeal.

They also received rave reviews from staff and shoppers, with many praising the children at the customer service desk and some even calling the store’s head office.

Sainsbury’s thanked the youngsters by providing hot chocolate, biscuits and presents.

Andrea Cox, headteacher at Sedgefield Primary School, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon. The children love to perform.

“I always remind pupils how Sedgefield is a fabulous community and offers so many opportunities to its children.

“You couldn’t wish for a better place to grow up and I think it’s important to teach them to give back to the community.”

Jo Robinson, Sainsbury’s PR ambassador, said: “We were delighted to have the children in our store to start the celebrations off. Sedgefield Primary is one of the many local schools and community bands we will have in store this Christmas.”
