SEDGEFIELD pupils travelled to school Frozen-style in an effort to get them to use sustainable methods of transport.

Sophie Glass, aged seven, from Sedgefield Primary school, won the competition to decide which famous heroes or villains would walk, cycle and scoot with them to school.

Disney’s Frozen Anna and Elsa and Christmas Carol’s Ebeneezer Scrooge accompanied pupils on their walk, which was part of Durham County Council’s MEGA Motion campaign.

The special guests also put on an assembly based on Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol followed by a Frozen sing-a-long.

Councillor Neil Foster, cabinet member for economics regeneration of Durham County Council, said: “MEGA motion is a brilliant scheme, helping our children stay healthy and teaching them all about environmentally friendly ways of travel from a young age.”

As part of the campaign, pupils earn points every time they use sustainable travel to get to school in the hope of becoming MEGA heroes by the end of the year.

Cllr Foster added: “It’s great to see the kids enjoying such a memorable day and we’d like to wish them all good luck in their quest to become MEGA Heroes.”
