A THEATRE group staged a pantomime to remember after winning a share of a £40,000 funding pot.
Almost 1,000 people enjoyed Spennymoor Stage and Song’s production of Cinderella at Spennymoor Town Hall last week.
The pantomime was made possible thanks to a £5,000 grant from Spennymoor Area Action Partnership’s (AAP) It’s Up 2 U funding scheme, which invites the public to vote for the projects they believe deserve a share of the cash.
De Hickson, business manager at Spennymoor Stage and Song, said: “This funding saved us. We were down to our last £1,000 and it costs about £7,000 to put on a show like this.
“We did some fundraising ourselves but the grant from the AAP made all the difference.
“Not only has it covered our costs but the voting forum itself provided fantastic publicity, which boosted ticket sales.”
Councillor Ian Geldard, chairman of Spennymoor AAP, said: “Spennymoor Stage and Song provides opportunities to so many people in Spennymoor. I am delighted they received a share of the funding.”
Children and adults are welcome to join the group.
