A MUSIC teacher is taking time out from inspiring youngsters in Darlington to impress judges on a major talent show.

Howard Rose left judges on The Voice spinning in their chairs with his take on classic rock song My Generation.

Mr Rose, a teacher with the Darlington-based School of Rock and Pop, was called “freakin’ awesome” by Will.i.am and impressed songstress Rita Ora with the rendition.

He has now joined Team Tom on the BBC1 talent show, picking the legendary crooner over his rival judge, the Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson.

The School of Rock and Pop’s founder, Darlington man Andrew Meadowcroft, said Mr Rose inspired all the young musicians he taught.

He said: “The students are absolutely thrilled with his success and the fact he has won through to the next round is proof of what he has been telling them for years – that you can succeed in the music world, regardless of your background, if you nurture and hone your talents and want it badly enough.

“Howard and I hope that being on The Voice will inspire all the young people out there to pick up a musical instrument or continue to sing because the enjoyment and rewards it can bring are incredible.”

Student Emily Barrett, from Darlington, said: “Seeing Howard on TV inspires us all.

“The School of Rock and Pop has helped me to learn how to develop ideas and perfect my techniques – going there is the highlight of my week.”

The School of Rock and Pop is based at Hummersknott Academy. For more information, email admin@schoolofrockandpop.com or call 07503-742642.
