WORK to repair crumbling paths and roads in Spennymoor has started thanks to £29,000 of funding provided by councillors and a social housing group.

Complaints were made by residents in bungalows located off Wood Vue that kerbs were crumbling, drains and manhole covers were uneven and weeds needed clearing.

Durham County Council began work on the repairs today. (Tuesday, February 17)

County councillors Neil Foster and Barbara Graham, who cover Spennymoor, decided to support the project.

They each gave £13,000 from their neighbourhood budgets and social housing provider livin gave an extra £3,000.

Footpaths are to be resurfaced and the kerbs will be dropped in places to help those in wheelchairs and driving mobility scooters.

The work will also widen Wood Vue so that motorists do not have to park partly on the pavements and so cause further damage to the street.

Cllr Foster said: “There was concern from the residents in that area. They tend to be old people who have mobility problems.

“It’s a project that we wanted to get started.”

The residents were consulted on the project by the county council to determine what they wanted.
