A TWO-WEEK campaign will target irresponsible dog owners in a town park next week.

Green Dog Walkers, organised by Durham County Council’s Civic Pride team, will take place in West Park in Newton Aycliffe from Monday, February 23.

Signage will be put up to encourage people to report dog fouling and fixed penalty notices will be issued to anyone who fails to clean up after their pet, while a golden ticket scheme will give those who do a chance to win a £25 voucher in a free prize draw.

There will also be a Stray Aid dog microchipping session at Newton Aycliffe Royal Air Force Association Club in Barrington Road on Saturday, March 7, from 10am until 2pm, and educational activities will be staged at primary schools in the town.

Great Aycliffe Town Council and social housing provider livin have sponsored the scheme.
