A MODEL railway exhibition will take place in Newton Aycliffe this weekend.

The event, organised by the town’s Rotary Club, will feature 16 working layouts in scales from “n” to “g,” created by leading modellers from across the region.

The models represent periods ranging from the 1920s to the modern day and feature destinations as far away as Japan.

Youngsters can also marvel at Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends.

Preservation societies from across the North-East will be present and there will be trade stands selling new and used equipment, including die-cast models, scenic items and Thomas the Tank Engine toys.

The event takes place at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre in Burn Lane on Saturday, March 21, from 10am until 5pm.

Entry is priced at £4 for adults, £3 for concessions, £8 for a family and 50p for children, with all proceeds to Heel and Toe, a charity caring for youngsters with cerebral palsy, and other rotary causes.

Refreshments will be served all day and free parking is available at St Mary’s Church opposite the venue.
