POLICE have warned people against climbing onto the roof of Darlington’s cattle market after a youth was hospitalised after falling from it.

As previously reported in The Northern Echo, a teenage boy was taken to hospital by ambulance on Wednesday after falling from the roof of the Darlington Auction Mart.

It followed several recent reports of youths climbing onto the top of the building and Darlington Police are urging them to stay away.

Officers are calling on the public to let them know if they see anybody climbing on the building.

A police spokesman said: “We have been made aware of recent incidents of young people climbing on the roof of the cattle market on Clifton Road.

“Holes have been caused in the roof as a result, and accidents have occurred.

“The risk of serious harm from climbing on the roof in this way is high.

“If you notice any persons causing anti-social behaviour at the location, particularly climbing on the roof, please contact us on telephone number 101.”
