A POLICE station is throwing its doors open to give people an insight into the day-to-day life of the emergency services.

Police staff will be on hand to guide visitors through the different aspects of policing at an open event at Darlington police station, in St Cuthbert’s Way, next month.

The event is being held from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, and will feature displays and demonstrations from traffic officers, the firearms unit and dog handlers.

Tours of the station are also being held throughout the two days.

The weekend follows on from a hugely successful open event last summer, which saw more than 350 people book places on tours of the newly-refurbished police station.

Dozens more turned up over the two days to meet different teams from Durham Police, including traffic patrols, neighbourhood officers, the Special Constabulary, the Alcohol Harm Reduction Unit and Police Cadets, and posed for pictures with the force’s motorcycle unit.
