AN out of school fun club – on a quest to raise more than £100,000 for a much-needed new building - has submitted plans for the project.

Sedgefield Out of School Fun Club is seeking planning permission to demolish its existing 1960s clubhouse at Sedgefield Primary School in Rectory Row and build a new pitched roof building in its place.

In recent years, the existing building has deteriorated rapidly and it has been deemed beyond repair.

The club, a registered charity set up in 1995, has already secured more than £65,000 towards the project.

It is now fundraising for the final £50,000 and, if plans are approved, the building could be up and in action by September.

The two-storey building would be finished in painted timber and would feature a large kitchen, separate rooms for infant and junior children to play, a craft area, storage and office space.

Sedgefield Out of School Fun Club is a registered charity offering affordable childcare from 7.45am to 9am in the morning and 3pm to 6pm on an evening, as well as during school holidays.

The service is available to children aged three to 14 years and is a lifeline for many working parents.

The public has until Wednesday, June 3 to comment on the application at durham.gov.uk
