YOUNGSTERS joined parents and nursery staff to toddle one mile to raise more than £900 to help to tackle autism.

Members of the Child's Play Private Nursery, in Ferryhill, took part in the event through the town.

Many of the 30 youngsters, aged between eight-months and five-years, and adults donned Disney-themed fancy dress for the walk.

They managed to raise £902.43 in aid of the North East Autism Society.

Laura Leigh Wayman, nursery owner and manager, said: “This is an amazing charity which is close to the heart of families, children and staff at Child’s Play.

“The Autism Society does some amazing work with youngsters all over the North-East and we are delighted that this money will be going towards helping those in our local community.

“We would like to say a big thank you once again to all of our children, families and staff members for getting involved and helping us to raise over £900.

“The money really does and will continue to make a difference to the lives of young children.”

Staff and children at the nursery take part in a charity event each May and plans for next year’s, in aid of a different charity, are being drawn up.
