AN AIR cadet has secured a prestigious flying scholarship.

Cadet Sergeant James Craggs, 18, is one of four air cadets selected for the John Cunningham Flying Scholarship, which includes 18 hours flying with Tayside Aviation in Dundee.

Sgt Craggs attained his G1 wings last year, meaning he can fly passengers and teach other cadets how to fly.

His course starts in August and, if he does well, he may get the opportunity to obtain a Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence.

The scholarship is named after Group Captain John Cunningham, a distinguished Second World War RAF night fighter pilot and later chief test pilot for the de Havilland Aircraft Company.

Sgt Craggs is part of 234 (City of Durham) Squadron Air Cadets. For further details, visit 234squadron.org.uk
