A VILLAGE is gearing up for its annual family fun day next weekend.

Bowburn Community Association and the D J Evans Youth Club will hold the event on Saturday, September 27, from 11am to 3pmat the association’s centre and the youth club, both in Durham Road, Bowburn.

The event will be officially opened by the chairman of Durham County Council, Cllr John Robinson.

There will be fairground rides including Swing Boats, Tea Cups and a Fun House.

The climbing wall that was such a popular attraction at last year’s event will be returning along with the Zoo Lab’s spiders, snakes and creepy crawlies, which will be on show in the youth centre sports hall from 1pm to 2pm. Admission is free.

Durham’s Police will be at the event with police dogs and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service will have one of its appliances there for people to look at, unless it is called to an incident.

Footballers from Show Racism the Red Card will be spreading their anti-racism message by handing out posters and magazines and they also hope to hold a fitness session.

The Primary Care Partnership’s health trainers will give free health checks to anyone who wants them and will also run a session in New Age Kurling.

There will be a disco, facepainting, balloons and more than 20 community stalls with games, competitions and goods for sale.

Hot and cold food will be available. It is the third year that the association and youth club have staged the event.
