POLICE and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg has praised a football charity for its work with North Durham youngsters,

Mr Hogg, the first holder of the post in County Durham, saw at first hand the work of Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light does to help tackle anti-social behaviour

He watched Junior Sports Leaders and Kicks sessions delivered by foundation staff designed to engage youngsters aged eight to 16 in healthy and constructive activities and help them get new skills and qualifications.

He also met representatives from Cestria Community Housing and Derwentside Homes to talk about the positive differences being made to their communities through their partnerships with the foundation.

Mr Hogg said: “It’s been fantastic to see first-hand the work that is being done by Foundation of Light, combating anti-social behaviour and raising the aspirations and skills of this region’s young people, and giving them a chance of realising their potential.

"The partnerships with Cestria Community Housing and Derwentside Homes have been key to the success of these initiatives, enabling substantial change in both areas, and I applaud the efforts of all involved."
