AN EVENT has been held aimed at promoting better lives for people with disabilities.

The free Fulfilling Lives event was held at Stanley Civic Hall today (THURS) and is the second event of its kind to be held in County Durham this year, following the success of a similar event held at the Town Hall, Durham Market Place in May.

The all-day event, which started at 10am and went on until 3pm, included a variety of engagement methods tailored for people with learning disabilities to help them lead a fulfilled life.

Carers were also encouraged to go along as it was an opportunity for them to network and to get up to date information on services available to them.

There were stalls that included activities in community, transport, health, education, sports and leisure as well as interactive games, prizes and a free draw for people to take part in.

A buffet lunch and refreshments were also provided throughout the course of the day.

The event also saw the launch of the county’s adults Engagement Forum, which has been set up to encourage carers to attend as well as those with a learning disability to take part in discussions around friendships and social networking.
