A CHARITY has won £3,000 from a bank’s community fund.

Marie Curie Durham won the top grant from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 for the Durham area.

Which causes should get funding was determined by a public vote.

The Marie Curie cash will be used to help pay for rapid response nurses, based at Durham City’s St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

Rachael Fodden, chairman of the Marie Curie Durham fundraising group, said: “We are delighted to have won and would like to thank everyone for taking the time to vote with their tokens, emails and tweets.

“The money will help our incredible Durham rapid response team, who work in conjunction with the current community staff to give the optimum care for palliative patients, both for end-of-life and longer-term care conditions.”

Gillian Foreman, manager of the Durham and Darlington Marie Curie rapid response team, said: “The rapid response team certainly feels very proud to be able to make a difference and the fundraising teams should feel very proud too.”

The other causes to win funding were: Brandon Boxing Club, £2,000; Kids Club Ushaw Moor, £1,000; and Great Lumley Methodist Church Mencap group, £500.
