THE first in a series of organ recitals at a former Catholic seminary will take place next weekend (Saturday, January 17).
Ushaw College, which closed its doors having trained Catholic priests for more than 200 years in 2011, will host a number of concerts beginning with Roger Fisher on Saturday, January 17.
Mr Fisher, a retired organist and master of the choristers at Chester Cathedral, will perform in the college’s stunning 1870s-built St Cuthbert’s Chapel at 2pm.
His programme will include works by JS Bach, Louis Verne and Felix Mendelssohn.
Tickets, priced £6, can be bought at the door.
The college’s chapels, cafe and gift shop will be open from 1pm to 4.30pm.

Having been largely hidden from the public for decades, the former seminary is gradually being opened up as a visitor attraction, with concerts, exhibitions, lectures and other events.
Meanwhile, talks continue over converting part of the campus, near Bearpark, Durham, into a new Durham University college.
