A CHARITY night to raise money for two hospices in memory of two men from the same village is being held tomorrow. (Friday, March 13)

Chip shop worker Sarah Sexton, 30, is having her head shaved at Langley Park WMC to raise funds as part of an evening of entertainment.

The event is being held in memory of Ken Watt, who was cared for at St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham, and John Anderson, who was treated at Willowburn Hospice.

Both men had been suffering from cancer and died last year.

The evening, which starts at 6.30pm, includes a raffle, auction and live music from South West.

Jean Turnbull, who works with Ms Sexton at Langley Park Fish Shop, on Quebec Street, and knew both men, said: “We wanted to do something to help the hospices and everyone is doing brilliant work to support them.

“They are funded purely by the public and it is overwhelming how much they do to help people when they need it most.

“It is not like a hospital and they create a relaxing environment. It should not be the case that people like us have to do something to keep them going but we do because the work they do is amazing.”

Entry to the event costs £5 and is payable on the door.
