MORE volunteers are wanted to help people find their way around Durham.
Unmissable in their pink tabards, the Durham Pointers have become a popular fixture of Durham Market Place in recent years, helping visitors orientate themselves in the absence of a Tourist Information Centre.
Leaders are looking to add to their 50-strong team and will man an information stall at Saturday’s (March 21) outdoor market.
The service is extending to weekends this year, running from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 3pm on Sundays.
Volunteers are asked to give two hours, once a fortnight, between mid-May and the end of September.
Steering committee member Janice Young said: “It won’t be long now before we all take to the Market Place again in our bright pink tabards, to help people make the most of their visit to Durham.
“The Pointers have gone from strength to strength in recent years, have achieved recognition in regional tourism awards, and even made television appearances.
“Above all, they receive great recognition and plaudits from visitors to Durham.”
