AN AMATEUR dramatic society will pay tribute to a popular screenwriter who died earlier this year with its next show.

Durham Dramatic Society (DDS) is dedicating its production of Murder Weapon to the thriller’s author Brian Clemens, who died on January 10, aged 83.

A screenwriter and television producer, Mr Clemens was best known for working on The Avengers and The Professionals. He was appointed an OBE in 2010.

He wrote Murder Weapon in 2012.

Described as an ingenious, tense thriller, it follows Chief Constable Jessica Bligh (Charlotte Bond) and her friend Dianne Tulliver (Anna Snell) as they discover Diane’s husband Paul (Michael Fletcher) shot dead, with ex-convict Charley Mirren (Alan Godfrey) standing over him with a gun.

However, the case is not as straightforward as it first seems.

The play is produced by Theresa Mulkerrin.

The show will be staged at the City Theatre, Back Silver Street, Durham, from April 19 to 25, with performances each night from Monday at 7.30pm, plus a Sunday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are £6.50. There are concessions available, priced £5.50, for the Sunday matinee and Monday night.
