A ROAD roller was stolen from a building site in the Meadowfield area of Durham over the weekend.

Police say the Bomag roller, valued at about £12,000, was taken at some point between 12.30pm on Saturday and 8.45am on Monday despite being carefully secured.

PC Paul Vickers said: “To remove it from the site must have taken some time, and we are hopeful that someone may have seen something suspicious.

“A large vehicle would have been needed to take it away from the area. It is possible that someone saw it during this time and so we are appealing for anyone who noticed anything suspicious over the weekend to get in touch.

“Clearly the item has a significant financial value. It is likely that it may have been sold on or advertised for sale.”

Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
