THREE causes have benefitted from a charitable society’s generous giving.

The Durham Lions club presented £600 to the Robbie Jones Fund, For Ava’s Intensive Therapy Hope (Faith) and the St Margaret’s Centre.

Robbie Jones, from Bowburn, near Durham had to have both legs amputated and lost some finger ends after contracting meningitis in 2008, aged 21 months.

His family has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for his ongoing care and meningitis charities.

Faith is a fundraising campaign on behalf of four-year-old Ava Roberts, of Nettlesworth, who suffers multiple seizures and has severely limited mobility.

The St Margaret’s Centre, at Crossgate, Durham, provides training for people recovering from mental illness.

The money was handed over during a charity concert at Bowburn Community Centre.

Lions president Alvan Bailey said: “The money was raised partly by the charity evening and partly by money from the Lions’ general charity fund.

“None of this would have been possible without the generous participation by the local community in Durham Lions fundraising activities.”
